Parent Community Association (P.C.A.)

The San Diego French-American School Parent Community Association (P.C.A.) consists of students, faculty, staff, and parents. Its mission is to strengthen and support a community that is vibrant, international, and inclusive of all members of our school family.

Structure

The goals of the P.C.A. Leadership Team are:

  • Organize and promote community events
  • Support and recruit volunteers
  • Support classroom activities by coordinating parent efforts and coordinating appreciation event.

Community Association Executive Team Members:

Amissa Rogombe | President

As President, Amissa leads PCA meetings and works closely with the executive team to
oversee all PCA events and expenditures. Amissa’s primary focus is to uphold the PCA’s
mission to support and strengthen the school community, which she achieves through
regular collaboration with the Head of School, faculty and staff, parent community, and
student body. Amissa has been an active member of the PCA and served as logistics co-
chair for last year’s SDFAS gala.

When she isn’t organizing PCA meetings or helping out at school events, you can usually
find Amissa cheering on a soccer field, curled up with a book and a beverage (preferably a
caffeinated one), or exploring new destinations with her family and friends.

Jana Zajac | Vice President | President Emeritus

As our Vice President, Jana  manages P.C.A. and E.T. meetings. She maintains the P.C.A. Guidelines as well as coordinates the P.C.A. officer candidacy and election process. Jana is in her third year as a parent and volunteer at SDFAS. She loves cooking, art and traveling with her family.

Alison Black | Director of Communications

Dr. Alison Black currently serves as a teacher educator and scholar at the University of. California San Diego’s Department of Education Studies. She has also served as faculty chair of the Chancellor’s Committee for the Status of Women and as a member of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Council at UCSD.

Her teaching background spans early childhood through postsecondary education and includes outdoor education and world languages (French), with a primary focus on secondary English Language Arts, Humanities, History/Social Studies, English Language Development, and support for multilingual learners in diverse communities across San Diego County. A consistent throughline in her work is a commitment to positive social and emotional development, equity-focused pedagogy, and fostering inclusive schooling.

Dr. Black collaborates with local schools and nonprofits and advocates for inclusive, anti-bias education and nature-based play and learning environments. Outside of her professional work, she enjoys camping, reading, dancing, playing music, and joining her son on their musical theater adventures!

Liz Elfant | Director of Events

As Director of Events, Liz oversees school events and initiatives that foster community engagement, working with staff, families, and external partners to support the school’s broader goals. Outside of SDFAS, the event she loves the most is spending time outdoors with her family.

Mélanie Christie | Treasurer

Melanie proposes the annual P.C.A. budget to the E.T. (executive team), the Head of School and the Finance office, oversees P.C.A. expenditures, presents financial reports at monthly meetings and at the fiscal year-end to the P.C.A. members and the School’s finance office.  Melanie also enjoys volunteering and participating in the fun events sponsored by the P.C.A. In her free time, she enjoys skiing with her kids and trying new experiences!

Omar Masood | Secretary

As Secretary, Omar supports the President and Vice President in coordinating PCA meetings and helping ensure everything runs smoothly. He also enjoys volunteering and getting involved in the various events organized by the PCA. In his free time, Omar loves traveling and spending time with his kids, especially playing sports together.

Zel Zorion | Room Parent Coordinator

As Room Parent Coordinator, Zel helps keep the Room Parent network connected with one modest goal: getting everyone from information overload to only mildly confused.

Outside of P.C.A, she is endlessly curious, easily distracted by a good idea and known to over-research almost anything in the name of efficiency.
She believes most things are better with humor, creativity and good company willing to ride the wave of life’s absurdity.

Events

In conjunction with the school administration, the P.C.A. organizes every year many events for the students and their families to bring together the school community, create connections between us, and welcome new families. The P.C.A. leadership team is supported by event-specific sub-committees each with their own Chair, Co-Chair, and volunteers. The annual events are decided, calendared, and budgeted by August 30 each year.

  • Sunset with SDFAS: This casual family gathering at the beach allows new and returning families to connect with parents from their children’s classes.
  • International Holiday Market: A fun-filled European-style holiday market that brings the school family and local community together.
  • Talent Show: An evening of music/dance/comedy/performance that brings the San Diego French-American family together.
  • Book Fairs: A one-week-long international bookstore in the school Auditorium.
  • Jog-A-Thon: A race with a purpose! All monies raised are used to replenish school sports equipment and/or donated to organizations chosen by student delegates.
  • Teacher Appreciation Week: We take time out three times a year to say thank you to our beloved teachers.
  • Summer Fair: A fun event for the school community to celebrate the end of the school year. The Kermesse includes games and international food stands for all families to enjoy.

Get Involved!
