From October 24–26, several members of the SDFAS Chess Team proudly represented our school at the San Diego Chess Open, one of the region’s most competitive chess events. Facing experienced players from across Southern California, our students displayed exceptional resilience, determination, and sportsmanship—qualities that define our program and our school values.
- Martin (8th Grade) placed 3rd in U1600 with 3.5 points, jumping from 1402 → 1536!
- In the U1200 section, strong efforts came from:
- Shawn (7th Grade), Sébastien (6th Grade) (1.5 pts),
- Milton (5th Grade) (1 pt), Zachary (5th Grade) (1 pt),
- Gabriel (5th Grade) (1 pt).
For many students, this was one of their first rated tournaments—an excellent preparation for Boston and a testament to their growth and determination.
