Alumni Spotlight: Jean-Baptiste

In an exciting opportunity to walk down memory lane, we’ve reached out to our former students to be featured on our Alumni Spotlight, which gives us a chance to reconnect with our beloved alumni. Jean-Baptiste  graciously spent some time answering some questions about his time at SDFAS, shared some heartwarming memories of the past, and shared his plans for the future.

Jean-Baptiste matriculated to the school in 2012 after moving from Mougins, France. He attended SDFAS from 2nd – 8th grade before graduating in 2018. When asked about his favorite moments at school, he recalls a standout project in 2018 with SDFAS’ theatrical group, La Troupe. He remembers contributing to the script, costume and set design, and choosing the music for a production, which commemorated the end of WW1.

The production was a human chess game designed to depict what could have been done differently to avoid war and promote peace. They were awarded 2nd place by Eurostory 2018 at the German Embassy in Paris.

When recounting his time in class, he fondly remembers his science classes with Ms. Denis in Middle School. He dissected frogs and built circuits; the latter, a core memory in his physics classes, which laid the foundation for his ever growing love for technology. Despite not being a fan of literature, he remembers loving Ms. Addo’s French class, stating, “I loved that she was treating us like grown-ups and pushed every day to become a better version of ourselves.” He also attended her AP French classes on Saturday mornings.

Jean-Baptiste chose to attend Mission Bay High for the IB program. Over the years, he has developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which prompts him to view problems with a critical eye and respond with solutions derived from different points of view.

In the future, he hopes to work for Apple as an Industrial Product Designer – a career path he’s considered for some time, but may change as he gets older. He prides himself in achieving straight A’s and is currently tied for Valedictorian. He will be attending UC San Diego for Electrical and Computer Engineering.

In closing, he states, “I have SDFAS to thank for building the stepping stones that helped me be where I am today.”
